Shutter Island
Summary
The movie begins with a naval officer who is sent on a duty with another naval officer to a mental asylum located on a far-off island. A patient is supposedly missing from the hospital and the two are sent on a mission to find her. But things seem weird from the very moment they land on the island, to the characters as well as to us. Their guns are taken away and strict instructions are given not to go to the C ward "where highly dangerous patients are admitted". It can be seen that the staff is not cooperative and everybody speaks in a pre-trained manner. The viewers gets confirmation of their suspicion the moment a lady writes to the protagonists to "run" and that too after sending away his companion to bring her a glass of water.
Subsequent scenes reveal that the protagonist is suffering from a trauma due to the loss of his wife who died of suffocation. He is actually on a personal mission to find Laedis who caused her death (not actually tried to kill her) and also to find out about the mysteries of the asylum.
What to expect
It is a unique movie as both the parties are constantly trying to trap the other and we being viewers are throughout anxious about the safety of the protagonist.
What happens in the ending leaves us triple troubled as the director doesn't make it clear how the protagonist manages to remain sane-- or is he?
