The Egyptian Pyramids- an animated short film
It is a funny little animated short film and just about 3 minutes long. It was uploaded to YouTube in 2014 and has over 21M views as of now. Made by a group of some brilliant 4th year students of an animated school based in France, the film is a perfect example of creativity and perfection. Some might think what kind of a story can one tell in 3 minutes? Then maybe you should head straight to the end to find a link to this movie.
The scene is located in 1920 Cairo, the capital of Egypt and as you may be aware, Egypt is most famous for its pyramids. The makers have made good use of the suspense and theories revolving around the hidden secrets of the pyramids.
We see a man digging a pit. He can be identified as a researcher or an archaeologist. He is brushing the dust off a violet plate and while turning it around, he sees many symbols. At first he dusts off the sand only to jump at the bleep of the device.
He doubts if it is a mobile phone but hears the sound of a heavy grounded structure in motion. Surprised by a huge figure which appeared from the base of the pyramids, he pushes away the remote to the ground.
The structure is the bust of a mummy and the pyramids stood as a cap on its head.
The camel is an equally interesting character who is initially seen chewing a paint brush which probably the archaeologist had brought for his experiments. The camel encourages him to press the button again and then the mouth of the mummy opens and a carpet of steps spread over to the ground to make way for him to get inside.
The curious little man climbs up the ladder and then to the steps leading inside the head of the mummy. As soon as he is in, the entrance shuts down as expected.
The camel can now be seen chewing the remote. While the remote continuously bleeps, the head of the mummy shuffles like a rubix cube and the camel enjoys the process thoroughly.
I was concerned about our little man who seems to have got lost in the maze of the bricks. It was funny to see that the camel finally stopped when the mummy took shape of a camel head!
The camel gulps down the remote and our mummy bust retreats towards the ground with the cap of the pyramids sealing it neatly into the sand. The audience now wonders whether the little man is dead. But watching Tom and Jerry and many more cartoon shows of my generation has taught me a few things: animated bodies are flexible beyond belief, and second, gravity doesn't work until you look down. So yeah, using a similar logic, a block of brick is removed and our magical man is flung out of the pyramids to fall straight into the pit.
While our hero stares at the camel in disbelief and anger, the camel is like, "I was just enjoying the show".
Who threw him out? Ah! Don't ask unreal questions in this super real world.
